As the United States prepares to celebrate 250 years of independence, 51 Steps to Freedom®, a nonprofit organization based in Washington DC, launched “Signing the Promise”, an innovative AR experience that encourages Americans to reconnect with the nation’s founding principles.
The campaign invites Americans to participate in a unique civic engagement experience by digitally signing a version of the Declaration of Independence and seeing their name appear on a giant AR wall.
Designed to be accessible in all 50 states, the initiative encourages participants to reflect on the values that have guided the nation since its founding, including freedom, democracy, opportunity, and civic responsibility. Through the use of Hoverlay’s AR Browser, individuals can virtually meet Thomas Jefferson, interact with a virtual replica of the Declaration of Independence, and add their names as part of a nationwide commemoration of America’s 250th birthday.
