  • December 7, 2023 – Hoveraly’s CEO and Co-founder Nicolas Robbe was invited by MIT Open Documentary Lab to present our work around AR and spatial computing and to train a new cohort of MIT storytellers to the Hoverlay spatial publishing platform. Learn more

November 2023

  • November 3, 2023Canal Convergence is an internationally recognized, free, 10-night public art event that takes over the Scottsdale Waterfront each November. For the 4th year in a row Hoverlay powers event’s AR artworks. “Welcome to Figment Land” is a series of Augmented Reality activated murals based on the Sam & Sara children’s book. Visitors can interact with the book’s characters, called “Figments,” which are activated through the murals’ imagery and AR, opening a world of imagination and inspiring creativity. Learn more

October 2023

  • October 16, 2023Winchester Cultural District celebrates a major public exhibition of art, both real and virtual, with the launch of the Winchester Cultural District’s “Riverwalk Exhibit.” virtual AR tour powered by Hoverlay. Strolling along the beautiful one mile-long exhibition, visitors can see the sculptures and dramatic AR creations, watch musicians perform and hear birds sing, listen to a poetry recital, view short videos from around the world, visualize Winchester’s history, and encounter other unique AR experiences.   • October 3, 2023Northeastern Universitys past, present and future collided on October 3rd as students walked through 125 years of history using Augmented Reality activations as part of Founders Day and Northeastern’s 125th birthday celebration. The activations, created in partnership with Hoverlay, served as a portal to iconic parts of Northeastern history, from its time as an automotive school to its place in Major League Baseball history. August 2023

  • August 10, 2023Worcester Common is hosting a new art project created by Worcester artist and educator Abraham Tena, titled “Bodily Autonomy Augmented Reality (AR) Lab,” funded by a Worcester Arts Council grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and powered by Hoverlay platform. July 2023

  • July 23, 2023 – The new piece by Carolyn Wirth in Augmented Aura at the Installation Space Gallery in North Adams, MA combines physical sculpture with an AR component, in this case images displayed on smartphones using the Hoverlay app. The piece, Augmented Hunting Costume for the Alpha Female, suggests the extravagant fashion a female coyote might design for herself, once interspecies communication becomes the norm in the future.   • July 19, 2023 – The paint is dry and Hoverlay channel is live for 2023 WildWalls. From paintbrush and canvas to conservation and campaign, Jackson Hole Public Art’s annual display of talent and mission is ready for art walkers. June 2023

  • June 28, 2023The Strong National Museum of Play is opening after the renovation with an Augmented Reality butterfly experience created by a digital art company Novaby and powered by Hoverlay platform. The museum-goers can scan a custom Hoverlay QR code on the ground to suddenly find themselves in a virtual butterfly garden. On the ground, colorful circles list the names of families and groups that have adopted these digital critters. Tapping on the bubbles lets visitors see that specific butterfly, which will then soar around the lobby. Read more from News10NBC

  • May 20, 2023The Swamp Observatory AR experiences, powered by Hoverlay, will be featured at Venice Architecture Biennale starting May 20th. The Swamp Observatory Augmented Reality is the result of a two-year collaboration with a school on Gotland Island in the Baltic Sea, arguably the most polluted sea in the world.   • May 15, 2023WildWalls 2023 in Jackson Hole WY will again combine art murals with Augmented Reality (AR) to promote a greater understanding and awareness of the region’s ecosystem through contemporary scientific research.   • May 6, 2023Winchester Cultural District in Winchester MA is holding an introductory, hands-on workshop titled “Expand Your Horizons with Augmented Reality” that will explore the practice and production of Augmented Reality (AR) content, with a focus on public art and cultural experiences.   • April 28, 2023 – While some people these days are using meditation apps on their phones to help them breathe and be present, Dan Collins, president of the Telluride Institute in Telluride Colorado, is augmenting presence with huge 3D mushrooms using Hoverlay platform. “Hoverlay creates an intimate experience, like on a live mushroom foray, the secret ritual that people look forward to every August,” Collins said. Learn more
  • April 25, 2023Swamp Observatory AR is a Hoverlay-powered conceptual playground and a digital tool to augment the reality with the imaginaries of the future time, materials, and species. Suggested as an instrument to restore the swamps on Gotland island in Baltic sea, the project is developed in collaboration with students and teachers at Atheneskolan in Sweden, who during their art and music classes have contributed to creating eco-monsters that will cohabit the planned stormwater ponds in northern Visborg.   • April 8, 2023[bitsandflow] is hosting a creative space for Boston’s Fenway community members to come together and share their stories, ideas, and collaborate to re-imagine and revitalize the Fenway neighborhood in Boston.   • March 6, 2023PERCEIVE, the European project on Coloured Collections, AI and Virtual Experiences is launching on 6th of March 2023, at the Auditorium of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN), during a special event open to scholar communities, cultural and creative sectors and the civil society. It is a unique occasion to explore the beauty and fragility of coloured artworks and assess the challenge of colour conservation and reconstruction together with multidisciplinary scholars and experts from 8 countries and 11 institutions. Speakers from 4 museums, including the MANN of Naples, the Munch Museum of Oslo, the Victoria and Albert Museum of London and the Art Institute of Chicago, will present their collections, activities and priorities. 3 companies (Anamnesia, Imki and Hoverlay) and 5 research institutes, starting from the coordinator of the project, CNR ISPC, together with the German Fraunhofer IGD, the Greek FORTH, the Norwegian NTNU and the Swiss HSLU, will try to pave the way towards innovating the museum visitor experience and towards a future of new discoveries and re-appropriation of these collections, diverse, but with a common element: colour and its perception.   • January 14, 2023 – Experience Augmented Reality digital drawings by Phoenix-based artist and designer Eric Torres at the Phoenix Art Museum. The exhibition titled “Mr: You Can Hear The Song of This Town” explores connections to game design.   • January 12, 2023 – Nicolas Robbe, CEO and Co-Founder of Hoverlay is mentoring at “MIT Reality Hack”, a community-run XR hackathon held at MIT and co-hosted by a team of community volunteers (alumni, friends, and others) with the Reality Hack Organization 501-c3 and a student org VR/AR@MIT.   • January 5, 2023JOURNEY, a unique New York City dining entertainment experience, is blending immersive video installations with fine dining, fashion, and theatre. JOURNEY incorporates four unique experiences under one roof. One of them is JOURNEY AR Café, where Augmented Reality provided through Hoverlay brings the dinner plates to life.   • December 12, 2022The Heart Project launches a worldwide campaign to send a virtual Aussie Santa to visit hospitals around the world to create magic for hundreds of sick children with an incredible Christmas Augmented Reality experience. Karen Alsop, the project founder, has been working with Hoverlay to initiate a new way of having children interact with the big man himself. Karen has filmed Santa communicating with the children in a green screen environment. With Hoverlay, she is able to program an interactive environment where Santa appears to children in the space they are in. It will look like Santa is standing in the hospital talking to them directly when they view through a mobile device. Santa will also be found telling his virtual 3D elf to get back to work and asking his 3D interactive Reindeer why they wondered off! Learn more about this amazing project.

  • November 4, 2022Canal Convergence 2022 marks 10 years of large-scale public art in and around the Arizona Canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront November 4–13, 2022. This year’s featured theme is “Celebrating 10 Years of Water + Art + Light.” For the third year in a row, Canal Convergence’s Augmented Reality art experiences are powered by Hoverlay. October 2022

  • October 22, 2022 – A pioneering Augmented Reality experience titled “Grand Ave Augmented” debuts in Downtown Los Angeles. “Grand Ave Augmented” features more than 50 AR experiences including original art installations, 3D animations, virtual musical performances, interactive holograms, and immersive 360º environments that push the boundaries of art, imagination, and technology.   • October 8, 2022 – Boston Fashion Week starts this weekend. For a second year in a row, it will use Hoverlay AR platform to virtually display fashion designs all over the city of Boston. To view the collections for each day, users can simply go to the location listed on the website and use Hoverlay to see each designer’s garments in an outdoor setting through your phone.   • October 7, 2022 – “Experiments in Augmented Reality” exhibit opens at the Installation Space gallery with AR installations by John Craig Freeman and Michael Lewy. The Installation Space is a gallery featuring immersive, interactive, interpretive, and informative art exhibitions, located on Historic Eagle Street in North Adams, Massachusetts. September 2022

  • September 30, 2022 – Around 2,000 people will climb the 1,664 steps of the US Bank Tower in Los Angeles to raise money for YMCA community programs. They can also get the first glimpse of Grand Ave Augmented, a guided augmented reality (AR) experience produced by the Downtown Center BID. Hoverlay, will unlock a variety of AR activations including Sky High murals brought to life in Maguire Gardens and experience the famous helipad in immersive 3D as if they were standing on it – 72 stories above DTLA!   • September 24, 2022 – Opening for The National Public Lands Day, dozens of volunteers descended on Giant Rock to help clean the popular landmark in Mojave Desert in California. They were also able to experience AR art and history of this unique location using Hoverlay. Check out Giant Rock Augmented
  • September 17, 2022LUMINEX, the award-winning outdoor digital art exhibition returns to the South Park District of Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. New this year is an exhibition-wide Augmented Reality experience. A QR Code will direct residents and visitors to the LUMINEX Channel on the Hoverlay AR app. Hoverlay will power an interactive map, as well as activate holograms of each artist, and enhanced reality at select installations. August 2022

  • August 20, 2022 – The Rising is an innovative, multi-dimensional public artwork that is an inspirational landmark for Inglewood CA residents and visitors alike. On August 20, 2022, the Fairview Heights metro station is opening and the mural will generate an AR experience via Hoverlay, revealing images of culture, history, and heritage. Learn more

  • July 12, 2022 – Los Angeles DCBID is producing “Grand Ave Augmented” – a virtual walking tour showcasing the major cultural institutions, key properties, outdoor spaces, amenities, and attractions of Grand Avenue through Augmented Reality (AR).   • July 1, 2022 – For the 3rd year in a row, visitors to Canal Convergence art festival in Scottsdale AZ will view the AR artworks and experiences through the ScottsdalePublicArt+ channel on Hoverlay. Read more.

  • June 28, 2022 – Grand Ave Augmented is a new initiative produced by Los Angeles Downtown Center Business Improvement District to attract visitors and activate the public spaces of Downtown’s Grand Avenue cultural corridor through an AR walking tour. Artists, local businesses and institutions are encouraged to attend one of the two online workshops being offered on June 28, 2022 and presented by DCBID executive director, Nick Griffin, NOW Art founder & chief curator, Carmen Zella, and Hoverlay CEO and Co-founder, Nicolas Robbe.   • June 14, 2022 – For the 3rd year in a row, annual WildWalls 2022 event in Jackson Hole Wyoming, organized by JH Public Art, will combine public murals with Augmented Reality (AR) through Hoverlay to promote an understanding and awareness of the region’s ecosystem through contemporary scientific research.   • June 7, 2022 – Supported by The City of Toronto and Artworx TO, The Toronto Island Puzzle Tour project has launched an Augmented Reality historical tour via Hoverlay platform. The project is based upon the in depth interviews and archival research from the feature documentary, “The City Island”.   • May 26, 2022 – WGBH Boston features new sci-fi Augmented Reality exhibition “Alpha 60” curated by the artist and art curator Michael Lewy. The exhibit brings Augmented Reality art from 19 different artists to the Boston’s Emerald Necklace parks system. Read more about this amazing AR exhibition.
  • May 13, 2022 – New Collectors Gallery in New York opens an NFT exhibition titled THE ART IS NOT HERE that uses Hoverlay to display artwork. Brendan Dugan, Emily Galvin, Alex Leav, and Timothy Nazzaro have developed an NFT project over the past month with the gallery, learning how best to utilize our spatial publishing platform in the context of their art practice.   • May 13, 2022 – For the second year in a row, Northeastern University uses Hoverlay to greet graduate students with AR holograms of the President and University Deans at 2022 Commencement ceremony. Learn more.
  • May 11, 2022 – The live concert by the Berklee NYC graduate student and artist Danielle Parkka held at Power Station at Berklee NYC building provided a parallel layer of artist-created Augmented Reality (AR) content powered by Hoverlay platform. The immersive content for each of the songs in the live set was triggered by MIDI notes and experienced on mobile devices through Hoverlay’s camera browser. Read the press release.

  • April 18, 2022 – Concord Academy kicks off its centennial activity with student created AR walk and virtual historical tours using Hoverlay platform. Concord Academy students worked with the Concord Museum, the Concord Public Library, the Concord Academy Archive, and other local history institutions to explore and retell the stories of the land that is now Concord Academy.   • April 11, 2022 – Hoverlay Spaces AR platform is officially nominated for the annual Auggie Awards 2022 in the category Best Creator & Authoring Tool.
  • April 4, 2022 – Hoverlay Spaces platform introduces a new feature that includes 360 photos and 360 videos content placements. Users can “walk through” a portal door that brings them to 360 environments from their physical space. Try Hoverlay Spaces.

  • March 14, 2022 – Superchief Gallery NY and Hoverlay team up for an experiential Augmented Reality NFT exhibition launched at the annual 2022 Hydra NFT Event in Denver CO. The AR exhibition features two great NFT artists Arsen Arzumanyan and Robness. Learn more about this NFT exhibition.

  • February 24, 2022 – Hoverlay participates in Berklee NYC organized “Innovation Week” a four-day conference and art hackathon, held at the legendary Power Station recording studio in New York.   • February 22, 2022 – Nicolas Robbe and Milan Kovacev of Hoverlay hold a series of workshops including a workshop on AR content creation and placement as well as the workshop on spatial audio and AR. January 2022

  • January 29, 2022 – A hands-on workshop exploring history, practice, and production of Augmented Reality (AR) art is organized by InterAccess, a non-profit gallery from Toronto Canada. The workshop is led by John Craig Freeman, a contemporary artist and a Professor of Art & Technology at Emerson College and Nicolas Robbe, CEO and Co-founder of Hoverlay.
  • January 24, 2022 – An AR project “Model Trash” by Pace University’s Fall 2021 Mobile Media class taught by Will Pappenheimer is put together in response to the “Sanitation Celebration” show at Pace University Gallery.   • December 15, 2022 – Northeastern University’s immersive media lab selects Hoverlay Spaces as their immersive media publishing tool for art, journalism, and history classes.

November 2021

  • November 14, 2021 – For the second consecutive year, Hovelay is used for creation and placement of immersive content at 20 different locations around downtown Scottsdale AZ for an annual Canal Convergence 2021 public art event.   • November 5, 2021 – During Canal Convergance 2021 art event, Hoverlay team presents at CODAWorx annual CODASummit titled “The Intersection of Art, Technology and Place”. Hoverlay’s CEO Nicolas Robbe gives a workshop on AR content creation and placement at Arizona State University.

  • August 4, 2021 – For the second consecutive year, SMASH Academy hosts its second virtual National Pitch Competition.   • June 10, 2021 – For the second consecutive year, Jackson Hole Public Art launches WildWalls murals paired with AR via Hoverlay platform, transforming 11 static murals into live animations and giving spectators a rich look at conservation efforts in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.   • May 12, 2021 – Northeastern University deploys various AR experiences during their 2021 commencement celebration. Four different locations are chosen to convey congratulatory messages to students, using a mix of videos and green screen hologram videos. Experienced through their mobile devices while on the campus, these augmented locations make a memorable and fun event for students and their families.
